Inclusive School of 2022: Riverview Collegiate in Moose Jaw

Congratulations to the winner of our 2022 Inclusive School Award, Riverview Collegiate in Moose Jaw! The staff at Riverview Collegiate have gone above and beyond to initiate, implement, promote, and support inclusion for students with intellectual disabilities.

Riverview Collegiate.

Riverview has 48 students with intensive needs and has implemented inclusive strategies and classes to support them. Throughout each school year, support teachers and classroom teachers meet to discuss the goals of each student as well as adapted materials. Riverview students gain a variety of academic, social, and functional skills that encourage independence in all areas of their life with a focus on communication, cooking and cleaning, and navigating the community.

According to one Riverview Teacher, "all students at our school benefit from our inclusive practices including gaining communication skills, empathy, leadership and team building, kindness, compassion, and an understanding of the strengths and needs of all people.”

Riverview's inclusive approach has made a huge impact with parents as well. According to one parent, "I find the staff very helpful and responsive to our needs and concerns. They guide our son academically but also socially and help the kids navigate the difficult world of modern socializing and technology. These programs deserve recognition as they are not provided at every school, and I have found that my son thrives with this type of education over any other format we have experienced.”

Congratulations again to the staff at Riverview Collegiate for being leaders in inclusive education practices and making a difference in the lives of their students.
