Conference Description:
Mental Health for All: Therapeutic Interventions for Individuals with Dual Diagnoses (Intellectual Disabilities and Mental Health Disorders) will alleviate the inequity that exists today for people with intellectual disabilities to access mental health services. This training opportunity for a broad spectrum of mental health providers will improve access for this population moving forward. Currently, mental health services are virtually inaccessible to people with a dual diagnosis of intellectual disability and mental health problem.
We know that the lives of people can be improved with consistent mental health services and supports; this is also true for people that have an intellectual disability and mental health concern. This high quality training opportunity from practitioners who treat people with intellectual disabilities and mental health disorders will provide attendees with strategies and methods to enhance their current skills in an inspirational and interactive way.
You will learn:
Prevalence rates for mental health diagnoses in this population
Diagnostic overshadowing
Trauma rates and risk factors
Strategies to maximize this population’s ability to access therapy and self-reflect successfully
The therapeutic and psychological techniques and strategies that work with this population
